Something fun..

I've been waiting for Noah to turn four years old last month so I could start teaching him something that I love to do... piano. I found a fun curriculum for early beginners where they learn together in a group setting. I've got all my supplies and I'm ready to start him in a class.. but I need a few other four year olds to get going... any takers?? Even young five year olds... just pre kindergarten so all the kids are on the same page.

Here are the details: once a week 45 minute group class, time and day to be determined.
Cost: $28 a month, but I'm also willing to do trades.. (hair, photography, babysitting, jewelery), you name your service:).. but there are a set of books that goes with the curriculum ($10 each or $20 for the three book series). Books the kids can color in and trace notes on, as well as their music that we learn together.

This is my first class for beginners this young, but eventually I hope to continue filling classes and it can be something that I do during the day when my kids are all at school, (rather than piano teaching all afternoon after school is out).

I have my studio all ready with four super fun keyboards. They have proven to already be a hit at my house. Both Leah and Noah LOVE to plug the headphones in and go crazy listening to all the sounds, I love it exposing them to music so young!! I also have an assortment of instruments that are great for rhythm (sticks, drums, guitars, ukuleles, shakers, etc.).. and a bunch of music games. I think this will be a fun class kids can explore music and rhythm while getting a basic knowledge of piano. After completing the course these 4-5 year olds should be able to play rhythms with 8th, quarter, half, dotted half and whole notes on all the white keys. They won't be reading music quite yet, that's for the next level. They will also learn to play together as a group. Not only will it be a great early music foundation, it will help them with their reading and counting skills. The benefits of music are so much more than just being able to play.

Anyway, drop me an e-mail or comment on the blog if you are interested. I really only intend to have four kids in the class. I guess three because Noah will be one of them.. but if I get a lot of interest, I suppose I could do two classes.

Oh, and if you don't have a piano, we can still make it work.

Oh, how I wish we lived closer!! I would be all over that. I would love to put Hunter in that class. I think it would be so beneficial on so many levels! If only there were a class around here like that. I really, really wish I could put Hunter in your class! I think four hours driving would be too much every week though! Bummer! That's such a great idea!

K that sounds SO awesome!! Addy would love it!! If you were in my neighborhood you would be booked solid!! Maybe I should do that, since I'm the only piano teacher in the neighborhood. That's such a good idea to teach that age group so you're not always busy teaching after school. I love love that idea! K I'm probably going to email you. I've been wanting to talk piano teaching stuff with you anyhow. How was the high school girl get together?
